S2 WEEK 6: Melania Editorial

Image
INSIDE THE TRUMP MARRIAGE: MELANIA’S BURDEN One of my main focuses when producing this editorial was to show Melania feeling unhappy in her new role. The cap is a key symbol of Trump supporters. Although Melania wears the cap, she does not necessarily feel comfortable with her title of First Lady. On reflection and from receiving feedback, I can see that some of my other concepts were much stronger at communicated the intended message. I would attempt this editorial again focusing on Trump holding Melania’s shoulder. I would illustrate Trump’s tanned orange hand gripping Melania. I feel that my digital work is appearing quite flat and does not showcase my strongest skills. Next week I will experiment with a lino print editorial.

S2 WEEK 5: Jacinda Ardern Editorial

Image
'I'll be prime minister AND a mum' New Zealand leader Jacinda Ardern, 37, announces she's pregnant with her first child (and will only take six weeks' leave) Before planning my initial ideas for this piece, I conducted research into key symbols of New Zealand. This influenced my decision to include the kiwi bird, in order to represent the country. I aimed to show Ardern trying to balance taking care of a child alongside being Prime Minister. I received positive feedback on the composition of the piece, but small details needed refining. Ardern does not appear to be very affectionate towards the child. I would improve this by showing her cradling the child closer to her, to show a motherly figure and a stronger bond.

S2 WEEK 4: Yellow Vests Editorial

Image
'Yellow vest' violence erupts across Europe Developed Editorial: Initial Editorial: Inspiration - Daily Mail Photograph: The main focus of this editorial is the statue based in the Place de la Republique. It is recognised as a symbol of peace and liberty. My initial intention was to show that, what was once seen as a peaceful place, is now a place of protest. I aimed to show this by having the statue wear the yellow vest. On reflection it could appear that the figure agrees with the protest and shares the same views as the yellow vest group. In order to develop this, I changed the facial expression of the statue to show concern at the violence taking place. The figures in the image represent the two opposing sides. The colours were also edited slightly to give more clarity to each individual shape.

S2 WEEK 3: Theresa May & Boris Johnson Editorial

Image
Theresa May reaches out to rival Boris Johnson  'We can do this together'  Developed Editorial: Initial Editorial: My initial attempt at this editorial did not quite communicate the intended message. Boris does not look that reluctant to help May. I think his face shows concern, but his body language does not match. The developed piece is stronger, but I think May could be shown to have a tighter grip on Boris. Her hand could have a tighter grasp on his shoulder. Boris could be presented trying to pull away from her grasp. One of the most important factors of this editorial for me, is that my audience recognise the figures. From feedback from peers, I can see that they are identifiable.
