WEEK9: Trump/Putin/Thatcher using words as Propaganda

Image
https://www.yourdictionary.com/slideshow/donald-trump-20-most-frequently-used-words.html I decided to focus on the way in which political figures use words as propaganda. Each figure has a tendency to use repetition making certain words more prominent. For example, Trump uses the word 'Amazing' often when delivering speeches. He also uses words associated with animals which I have previously looked at when producing an editorial piece.  Putin's vocabulary appears sterner and more serious with words such as 'order', 'dangerous' and 'destroy. In one of his speeches he explains 'The task of the government is not only to pour honey into a cup, but sometimes to give bitter medicine.' Trump promises 'amazing' outcomes, whereas Putin seems to have a more realistic approach, explaining that you will not always favour some of the government's decisions. I also looked at Thatcher's approach, which seems to be more posit...

WEEK 8: Trump Editorial Time Magazine

Image
Having read an article by TIME Magazine, I decided to experiment with creating an editorial piece. The article was particularly interesting to me as it refers to Trump's poor and offensive use of language. When talking about immigrants in particular, the president uses descriptive words that are associated with animals. It often comes across as though he forgets they are human beings. Rough 1: When creating this rough, I decided to focus on the word infest. I associate the word with unwanted creatures that are troublesome. The animals I think of related to this are cockroaches and mice. By using the mice, I feel the idea of them being human like can be communicated. I used the mice family in order to present the fact that although they may not be wanted in someones home, they  are simply trying to survive and protect each other. The eye peering through the mice hole belongs to Trump, showing that this topic is one of his main focuses. Rough 2: This rough focuses ...

WEEK 7: Illustrating the 7 Devices of Propaganda

Image
Plain Folks: I aim to show that the person is trying to relate to the 'common people', but may also be saying everything they think they want to hear. The person appears to be wearing a mask in order to fit in or relate to the people. Although not all propaganda is misleading, I do often question its intentions and as to whether or not they give false hope. Glittering Generalities: I used the yellow and black stripe in order to present the idea of being vague or not completely accurate. Yellow and black tape is associated with being cautious or aware of a form of danger. I applied this to the approved stamp to show that although the message communicated may seem convincing, the information supporting it may not be completely accurate. Testimonial: The thumbs up symbol can be recognised from social media platforms such as Facebook. I have used this in order to show the idea of someone endorsing or approving of a certain idea. The person may not e...

WEEK 6: Trump & Putin Quotes

Trump Quotes ‘I have tremendous respect for women’ ‘I wouldn’t say I’m a feminist. I think that would be, maybe, going too far.’ ‘The beauty of me is that I'm very rich.’ ‘Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q . is one of the highest—and you all know it! Please don't feel so stupid or insecure. It's not your fault’ ‘Nobody respects women more than me.’ ‘I sorta get away with things like that.’ (on bursting into Miss Universe pageant dressing rooms) ‘Democrats are the problem. They don’t care about crime and want illegal immigrants, no matter how bad they may be, to pour into and infest our Country, like MS-13. They can’t win on their terrible policies, so they view them as potential voters!’ https://www.thoughtco.com/donald-trump-quotes-2733859 http://time.com/5316087/donald-trump-immigration-infest/ Putin Quotes 'I am not a woman, so I don't have bad days.’ 'I am the wealthiest man, not just in Europe, but in t...
