S2 WEEK 2: Putin Editorial Development

Image
'The task of the government is not only to pour honey into a cup, but sometimes to give bitter medicine'. After receiving feedback on my initial response to the Putin quote, I developed my editorial piece further. I aimed to emphasise the idea of someone being forced to swallow the honey. In this piece Putin resembles a dentist. I decided not to use a detailed figure when drawing the victim, in order to show the person could be any member of the general public. In order to develop this further, I would make Putin appear to be more forceful. Another improvement for this piece would be to work on Putin’s facial features, as he looks quite young. I would include lines on the forehead to represent wrinkles and his current age.

Semester 2 WEEK 1: Editorial Articles

Editorial Articles SEMESTER 2 AIM:   Following on from my research and experiments conducted in Semester , I intend to produce a piece of artwork each week. Each piece will be editorial based and focus on current political news. I have compiled a list of potential articles to work with below. These may change over the next few weeks as new stories appear. 'I'll be prime minister AND a mum': New Zealand leader Jacinda Ardern, 37, announces she's pregnant with her first child (and will only take six weeks' leave) https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5286245/New-Zealand-Prime-Minister-Jacinda-Ardern-pregnant.html INSIDE THE TRUMP MARRIAGE: MELANIA’S BURDEN https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/04/donald-melania-trump-marriage ‘Like I said: A puppet’: Hillary Clinton doubles down on Trump and Russia https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2019/01/14/like-i-said-puppet-hillary-clinton-doubles-down-trump-russia/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.ea...

WEEK 14: Putin Final Editorial

Image
My final piece focuses on using the words 'honey' and 'bitter medicine'. I decided to include the honey stirrer in the colours of the Russian flag in order to show who is in control. The phrase to 'stir the pot' comes to mind. The honey pot has been replaced by an orange pill bottle, by doing this I aim to show that something that was once enticing now has a less positive association. My main aim is to show Putin's mindset and the fact that he is not proposing that the country will agree with all of the government's decisions. The 'honey' almost represents the pleasing outcomes, whereas the 'bitter medicine' represents the less pleasing.

WEEK 13: Putin Editorial Development

'The task of the government is not only to pour honey into a cup, but sometimes to give bitter medicine'. This quote is taken from Putin's speech to congress, he suggested  giving 'tough medicine' in order to solve the financial crisis. I chose this quote, as I felt there was plenty of imagery/symbols to work with. When sketching I decided to focus on combining the honey with the medicine. I felt the contrast of the two would emphasise the idea of something appearing to be sweet, but by adding the 'medicine' element, it is in fact not all it seems.  https://www.channel4.com/news/vladimir-putin-set-to-return-as-russias-president
