WEEK 11: Trump Editorial Development




After researching several creatives for inspiration, I decided to revisit the TIME Trump editorial and develop this further. I started sketching imagery based on the vocabulary I have previously looked at, mainly focusing on the idea of a 'swarm' or ''infestation'. I experimented with combining symbols/imagery with Trump rather than just drawing Trump himself. I feel the strongest ideas focused on the president being a form of pest control or bug killer, My tutor suggested I then take one of my ideas and experiment with cutting paper to construct my pieces. WEEK9: Trump/Putin/Thatcher using words as Propaganda

Each figure has a tendency to use repetition making certain words more prominent. For example, Trump uses the word 'Amazing' often when delivering speeches. He also uses words associated with animals which I have previously looked at when producing an editorial piece.  Putin's vocabulary appears sterner and more serious with words such as 'order', 'dangerous' and 'destroy. In one of his speeches he explains 'The task of the government is not only to pour honey into a cup, but sometimes to give bitter medicine.' Trump promises 'amazing' outcomes, whereas Putin seems to have a more realistic approach, explaining that you will not always favour some of the government's decisions. S2 WEEK 4: Yellow Vests Editorial

'Yellow vest' violence erupts across Europe Developed Editorial: Initial Editorial: Inspiration - Daily Mail Photograph: The main focus of this editorial is the statue based in the Place de la Republique. It is recognised as a symbol of peace and liberty. My initial intention was to show that, what was once seen as a peaceful place, is now a place of protest. I aimed to show this by having the statue wear the yellow vest. On reflection it could appear that the figure agrees with the protest and shares the same views as the yellow vest group. In order to develop this, I changed the facial expression of the statue to show concern at the violence taking place. The figures in the image represent the two opposing sides. The colours were also edited slightly to give more clarity to each individual shape.
