S2 WEEK 11: Brexit Protest

Image
I decided to focus on anti-Brexit when producing my protest illustration. I thought it was important to focus on the EU flag, as it is a key symbol. The stars on the flag represent unity. Both the stars and the plaster were produced using stamps. I think the grainy effect produced is appropriate, as the stars appear damaged and distressed. I aimed to present one of the stars as the UK. The plaster over the top presents the idea of maintaining the unity of the countries. The plaster could also show the idea of repairing a relationship, in order to stay in the EU. I found illustrating the topic of protest difficult. I would research further into this and experiment with producing more illustrations.

S2 WEEK 10: Gun Lobby Propaganda

Image
When illustrating Propaganda, I decided to focus on gun lobbies. The group argue for the right of members of the public to be able to own guns. This piece was created using stamps and then edited digitally. Stamps allowed me to produce a similar aesthetic to lino print. I tried to merge the gun with the thumbs up, in order to show the groups of approval of the weapons. Although I think it communicates their view towards guns, I feel the composition could be improved. The gun could be drawn in the shape of the thumbs up, rather than layering two separate images. I found propaganda quite challenging to illustrate and feel I could have explored this topic further.
