S2 WEEK 9: Theresa May Brexit Portrait

Image
Theresa May’s Brexit defeat makes history as biggest ever government loss in Commons When planning ideas for this editorial, I decided to focus on one of my strengths, which is portraiture. I thought it would be interesting to adapt my lino print technique to suit this. As the article topic is quite negative, I felt the black and white colour scheme was appropriate. It also reflects the mood of the political figure. This has received the most positive feedback so far. The expression on May’s face reflects the idea of defeat. In the future, I would consider focusing more on expression and the faces of political figures. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-vote-theresa-may-defeat-mps-history-biggest-ever-loss-commons-a8729791.html

S2 WEEK 8: Trump Puppet Editorial

Image
‘Like I said: A puppet’: Hillary Clinton doubles down on Trump and Russia Development 2: This article was slightly more challenging when planning the composition of the piece. I aim to show Russia having control over Trump and playing with him like a ‘puppet’. I have edited the face slightly from the original, changing certain shapes and adding additional colour to give more clarity. In order to improve this, I would concentrate on the jacket sleeve emblem. The orientation is not accurate compared to realistic shirt cufflinks. The positioning of the flag should be lower down on the white section of the sleeve. I think the colour scheme works particularly well in this piece. Development 1:

S2 WEEK 7: Trump & Kim Jong-Un Editorial

Image
Trump says he and Kim Jong-un ‘fell in love’ after sending each other ‘beautiful letters’ I am particularly happy with this piece, as it best shows my illustrative style. I feel that the lino print editorial is much stronger, as it is bolder with a more graphic aesthetic. Initially this was printed in black and white, but colour was then implemented digitally to make each individual shape stand out. The colour gave more clarity to each of the political figures. I focused on the idea of the pair falling in love, by presenting the two figures as love birds. I intend to continue with the print media when working on further pieces.
